Nina Buchner - Kung Fruit
Nina Buchner was born in 1988 in Wiener Neustadt. She lives and works in Vienna. She publishes her comics herself or via micro publishing house HOUSE BOOKS. Inhabitants of her body of work are often anthropomorphic molluscs or fruit (Planarians, Slug, Kung Fruit). The diverse protagonists not only have to deal with the dull banality of day to day life, but also have to face existential questions.
In Kung Fruit, a berserk durian mobs a bunch of unsuspecting fruit, whose fate seems sealed until they sneakingly strike back and make a horrendous discovery. The exhibition will focus on detachted elemts of this story, which are put in new context.

Stefanie Koscher - Screenshots of Despair
In „Screenshots of Despair“ the multimedia artist and musician Stefanie Koscher shows a selection of collage and mixed media works she created over the last decade in different parts of the world (NYC, Berlin, Wien, Carinthia). Inspired by photoshop-style layering, the works show analogue compositions of mindfully selected images, trying to bring some sort of utopian order into a chaotic overflow of visual stimuli, that we are exposed to even more so in our everyday virtual realm. The results of this process are often dissonant, alienated and strange and put a spotlight on the absurd. The endproducts become some sort of connective tissue to the collective unconscious, and ask the spectator to decrypt context intuitively.
transformative embodiments
THERESA WEY fotografiert vorwiegend in autobiografischem Kontext.

English:
The group exhibition transformative embodiments shows a cross-section of young artistic positions that deal in particular with one‘s own and other bodies through the photographic medium.
MANUEL CARREON LOPEZ performatively creates self-portraits, that serve as fugitive sculptural material. The body is fixed into a permanent composition by translating the images into the resulting photographic objects.
KATRIN HANGA uses her pictures to develop an individual poetic imagery, in which body and gaze intertwine with the materiality of the photographic technique.
ANNAMARIA KOWALSKY explores the boundaries between condensed image planes in her self-portrait series Anonymous through photography and painting. The seemingly frank view onto the averted body is hidden in paint, to be cut through again.
THERESA WEY photographs mainly in autobiographical contexts. Portraits become testimonies of encounters, to make herself and others visible in images that reflect relationships and intimacy.

Merlin Kratky - Teiresias erscheint Odysseus in der Unterwelt
We are happy to announce an exhibition by viennese artist Merlin Kratky.
The artist will be present at the exhibition opening of "Teiresias erscheint Odysseus in der Unterwelt" make sure to drop by and have a glass of wine with us.
A NEW SELF-EVIDENCE.
SOMETHING HAS SNEAKED IN.
PROTECTED BY THE SHADOWS OF THE BLIND SPOTS, IT SLIPPED
TROUGH THE DOOR OF OUR WEAKNESS, UNNOTICED. THE WEAKNESS
THAT WE ALWAYS CONSIDERED OUR GREATEST STRENGTH.
AND NOW HERE IT IS, SIDE BY SIDE WITH OUR CREATION,
MOCKING US WITH A TRIUMPHANT GRIN. FINALLY ASCENDING
THE THRONE OF ITS POWER, IT ENCOURAGES US IN OUR MADNESS.
IT APPROVES OF EVERYTHING IN OUR WORK
FOR WE CANNOT JUDGE IT OURSELVES.
IT SHOWS US WHAT WE HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE.
IT SHOWS US OUR OWN PARADISE.
A PARADISE WHERE BANANAS ARE STRAIGHT
AND TOMATOES ARE SQUARE.

It’s summer and an unusual boiling heat in Vienna. You and your fellow bleary-eyed colleague are standing in front of a supermarket. Wondering faces. Closed. It’s Sunday. And you didn’t even notice.
Situations like these are as natural to ImPulsTanz - International Dance Festival employees as breathing. Working intense hours with not enough sleep creates a certain type of bonding. Connected by their engagement at their shared working space and the strong interaction of their different departments at the festival, led to the idea to host an exhibition by a bunch of colleagues, who also lead artistic lives as visual artists.
A group exhibition which brings on display individual artistic statements and points of views, connected through the imaginary collegial mind.

The Democratic Club
Adda-Matinée & Presentation:
Atmospheric transfer and discussion about the first public spaces in modern India
Sun, Oct 21, 2018 / 11am
Location: Depot, Breite Gasse 3, 1070 Vienna
Guest: Bhaswati Bhattacharya, historian and ethnographer, Georg August University Göttingen
The Democratic Club is a dialogue between two particular institutions, the Indian Coffee House and the Viennese coffee house. Both were important places of everyday sociability and intellectual exchange during their heyday. After India’s independence, the coffee houses – formerly organised under the auspices of the British Raj – were transformed into a cooperative society. As an open space for discussion this contributed to the development of the young democracy by extending the public sphere into the inside. Ongoing changes within society, accompanied by the emergence of international coffee chains, has already left traces of erosion on these public interiors.

Philipp Muerling - selfies

"I'm working on my barriers," says the young artist, musician and performer Philipp Muerling. Because of a neurodegenerative disease, he is in need of a wheelchair for several years. Radical and unadorned, vulnerable and naked, therefore, he puts his own body again and again into the center of his art. In performances and videos, he confronts himself and the audience with the barriers and failure that this body imposes on him, turns himself into a model and object of serial, study-like self-portraits in pencil and explores the enforced rhythm and slowness of this body in the deconstruction of digital music pieces out.

An artist living and working in Brooklyn NY. Early on he picked up skateboarding, and he immersed himself within the subculture. Designing tshirts, skateboard graphics, and skateboarding in local shop videos. He eventually went on to design over 200+ board graphics for skateboard companies from Norway, Russia, England, and all over the US and rest of the world. His art as well as himself skateboarding appeared in numerous skateboard magazines including Thrasher.
Adopting the moniker of Wizard Skull and abandoning freelance design work, he began wheat pasting his art all around New York. One of his most often wheat pastes was "Sexy Ronald", a buff version of Ronald McDonald wearing only underwear with fries popping out of them. People began photographing and sharing images of it on social media which led to the image going viral several times, being bootlegged and sold on tshirts in Thailand. This also led to his art being exposed to a larger audience.

"The boutique Hotel Altstadt Vienna is a curated residence, a patron to the arts and a favourite luxury bolthole of the culture scene." - White Line Hotels
The Viennese fine artist Julia Faber comments in her work on the technical evolution of the human body. She describes the vacillation between alleged necessity, perfection and dependence on these technical enhancements. Through their creative negation of the natural real devices and historical and centemporary inventions drift off into a surrealistic image. Julia Faber interprets technology a spacer to the human body.
Rudolf Fitz aka. grundieweiss_vienna, born 1989 in Vienna, is artist and graphic designer. He started with graffiti about 12 years ago, his interest in art grows more and more, since a few years he is doing his art also on canvas. In the beginning he followed an abstract, expressive style, but it developed to a clear, figurative style on the one hand and on the other hand, into a straight, colorful and geometric style for the other part of his artwork. The main part of his art refers on the classical charme of vienna, most of it is fictitious. He prefers using oil color for his paintings.
Ben Reyer is a collage artist who subverts popular imagery to create fantastical combinations. In his slice and dice technique he uses vintage posters, books, magazines, and other printed matter. Always made by hand, his collages are pieces of history, made for the future, critiquing the now. The artist, born in 1985 in Vienna, Austria, grew up in Los Angeles. He earned his Bachelor of Geography Degree at UCLA in 2008, traveled the world, and now lives and works in Vienna.
Daan Lievense (1986). Living and working in Vienna. Studied multimedia art with the focus on spatial works and installations in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Currently focussed on painting and sculpture. Works are drawn from common images and ideas in daily life.

Next to all projects Sebastian Schager works as an artist in Vienna, Austria since more than 10 years, specialising in complex large scale stencils and his painting method "Wheel of Fortune" involving a randomising mechanism and picture sets.
ULLA RAUTER / ROBERT BODNAR
(Photo Credits: Mag. Manuel Carreon Lopez)
Ulla Rauter works as a media artist and musician between sound art and fine art. Her work includes performative sculptures, musical performances and experimental instrument making. The artists self built sound interfaces are operated through physical impulses and signals by witch electronic sounds generate. The instruments often act as an extension of the artists body and become a sensual interface between her physical existence and the surrounding space and sound.
Robert Bodnars concept about photography is highly contemporary and radical. His experimental approach as part of an “Artistic Research Generation” involves technical, mathematical and physical knowledge. His media specific work often involves self build camera parts, complex calculations and special materials.
